Yes, it happens to the best of us. Trust me.
Now, it might not happen to those of you who wakes up and feels absolutely fabulous and never has a bad day when you feel imperfect. But for me, those days are all too familiar. You know – those days when you wake up and plan to stay at home but someone pushes you to go out… And there you are, stuck in a shopping centre where everyone is looking at you and watching your every move… Where everyone is paying attention to your hair, or the clothes you’re wearing… And you’re busy talking to yourself trying to calm yourself down, but you can feel others looking at you as if you’re speaking what you’re thinking.
Well, if you’re like me, then let me blow you away with this one fact: It’s all in your head!
Yup! No one is looking at you and thinking about how your hair is a mess, or how your eyes look tired, or how your outfit doesn’t match, and they certainly can’t hear every thought that’s rushing through your head.
This social awkwardness… Social phobia, some like to call it, is like a cage. But guess what? You’re the one who has the key.
For those who never have this, I envy you. However, for some of us, we have those days when we just feel terrible and we would rather lock ourselves in our rooms and wait for tomorrow. I have those days too. But trust me, the only person who is suffering is you. And guess what? You have the power to decide that, ‘no, this day is going to be good and I’m going to get through this.’ You have the power to realise and remind yourself that the entire world isn’t out to get you.
So, next time you’re feeling socially awkward and you’re thinking to yourself ‘arghblurghblahurh’, tell yourself that you are beautiful and amazing and there’s no one else like you. So what are you waiting for? You go on out there and show the world what you’re made of!
